Janet Silverglate always knew that dancing was the thing she loved best. At the age of 7 she began studying folk dance, then moved into musical theater and jazz. At the University of California Riverside she discovered her true love, modern dance. She received her B.A. in Art History and Dance from UCR and then took off for San Francisco. In the Bay Area Janet took classes with ODC, Margaret Jenkins, Joe Goode, Ellen Bromberg and Beth Hogue and performed for a number of choreographers. She received her M.F.A. from Mills College in 1991. She was asked to accompany June Watanabe to the American Dance Festival in Durham, North Carolina and to dance for Ellen Bromberg at the Yellow Springs Institute in Pennsylvania. She joined the Ellen Bromberg Ensemble in 1991 and taught at Danspace in Oakland. After moving to Santa Cruz Janet studied Yoga and Pilates. In 2008 Janet was commissioned to do a piece for Cabrillo College's Winter Dance Concert. She currently teaches modern and contemporary dance at UCSC and Motion Pacific.
